I wrote two pages while our internet was out, so i thought it would be better if i split it up.
Blogs are such an unfamiliar medium to most of the world. This comes mainly from their lack of consistency in uses. Some use them to journal their life happenings, others use them to express their spiritual & political views, some use them to express their emotions and deep thoughts, and others use them to gather information and write about current events.
Here are few misconceptions I have found.
The person calls themselves a writer and they have a very professional looking site. Their entries look like news paper articles, so they must be legitimate writers with many readers.
- The sad reality is, no matter how wonderful a person writes, or if they call themselves “writers,” if they’re on Blogspot, xanga, modblog, etc… and they don’t have their own personal address, they are more than likely a either an unknown aspiring teenager or a wanna-be writer that can’t hack it in the published world.
- I know that sounds harsh, but think about it. If I were serious about writing on the internet then I would throw down the 10 extra dollars it takes to have my own internet address.
Since its online it can be seen by thousands of people all over the world.
- While it is “possible” that thousands of people could read the average person’s blog, it is incredibly improbable. If you look at the bottom right of my page you’ll see a counter with a triple digit number. That is how many page views I’ve had in the past two months. The main thing to remember is that it is page views and not individual visitors. The truth is, only about 15 different people frequent this site, and about 5 random people from blogger check out a post right after because blogger lists the most recently updated blogs.
- For the most part, if someone is at my site, it’s because they know me. Besides the rare link through blogger, the only other way is either linking from a friend’s site (of which I have maybe two links) or manually typing it in on your web browser. Try finding my site through a search engine. Choose the right key words and you might find my site on the second page. Type in Scott Randolph and you’ll get loads of sites dedicated to the country western actor Randolph Scott.
Or i could be wrong about eevrything and completely full of crap.
