"Jerry Falwell died this morning, that means we can't make fun of him anymore." -Chris
Though he along with Pat Roberts and Joel Olsteen are the quintessential whipping boys for many conservative yet less political Christians i do mourn his loss. I believe that Falwell was a devoted follower of Christ. I believe that he said and did many things to hurt the cause of Christianity, but he also did great things for God that have helped spread the truth of Christ's redemption throughout the world. Jerry Falwell was merely human and as mere mortals we are all bound to do and say stupid things. Thankfully most of us aren't in front of microphones, on camera, or being examined by the press enough for others to truly see our faults.
Death isn't a time for us to sugar coat one's history nor is it a time of rejoicing. Its a time of honest reflection on one's life. We need to look at Jerry Falwell's faults and learn from them so we do not follow the same path, still we must examine his strengths (such as his great Faith in God's power of provision) and be encouraged to build those characteristics in ourselves.
I believe Jerry Falwell was a good man, an imperfect man indeed, but a man that truly sought to honor God with is life. And for that i mourn his passing.
Is any other reason necessary?
