Though God reveals Himself through nature, due to our state of rebellion to God heathens do not recognize this enough to warrant faith in Him. You shouldn’t accept tradition merely on the basis of tradition but you should not reject it on that basis either. Christianity places emphasis on both internal and external obedience. “True fear is joined to hope, because it is born of faith, and because men hope in the God in whom they believe. False fear is joined to despair, because men fear the God in whom they have no belief.” “So, without the hunger for spiritual things, we weary of them.” “The last proceeding of reason is to recognize that there is an infinity of things which are beyond it.” “If we submit everything to reason, our religion will have no mysterious and supernatural element. If we offend the principles of reason, our religion will be absurd and ridiculous.” “The knowledge of God is very far from the love of Him” “Men will never believe with a saving and real faith, unless God inclines their heart; and they will believe as soon as He inclines it.” Christianity is not exclusively for the intelligent or unintelligent, but rather Christ’s saving grace is available to those who are willing to humble themselves and submit to His authority.
Question:
Would Pascal be considered today to be a Calvinist?
